Special Services

Special Services

The Dieringer School District provides assistance to students with learning, communication, physical and other disabilities. We strive to educate each child in the district depending on individual student needs to our fullest capability.

Each special education student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is reviewed and updated annually. Every three years the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) reassesses a student’s progress to determine his/her eligibility for services. The provision of these services require 9.5 special education teachers, instruction assistants, 2 school psychologist, Psychometrist, a part-time physical therapist, a part-time physical therapy assistant, an occupational therapist, a occupational therapy assistant, counselors at NTMS, DHES and LTES, 52 paraeducators, as well as contractual services with community agencies. Dieringer also provides remedial services in the area of reading for students who do not qualify for special education.

Special Education Procedural Safeguards
Your Rights Under Section 504

Dieringer Special Services covers the following areas:

Early Childhood Special Education:
Dieringer provides Development Preschool services for children, ages 3-5, who qualify as eligible. Special Education preschool services are typically a blend of several services, which might include speech, physical and occupational therapy as well as integrated classroom opportunities with disabled and non-disabled peers.
Eligible 3-5 year olds are identified through child find, the district's process of identifying students not yet attending school, who might have a handicapping condition and possibly be in need of special education services. Child find screenings are scheduled for various dates during the school year.

504 Accommodations for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Under Section 504, the district has a duty to provide a free and appropriate public education for students and staff members with disabilities that may interfere with typical activities such as learning. We have students with medical conditions that require classroom accommodations in order for that student to be successful in school. We maintain a listing of those students and periodically review the plans of accommodation (504 plan) with teachers and parents.

The state legislature requires school districts to bill Medicaid for therapy services provided to Special Education students at school. In the Dieringer School District this includes, occupational therapy, and physical therapy services. Students who receive Medicaid will not have their services at school restricted in any way.
